"Canyon Road" by Jack Providenti

"Canyon Road"
by Jack Providenti
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
Desert heat and strong winds provided an atmosphere of dust that covered the canvas. Mixing  and applying paint was difficult, but somehow it all came together. However, I wouldn't recommend painting with desert dust!

Painting in the Canyon

The walls of Box Canyon are directly behind me. Since I've painted this canyon before, I thought I'd paint the road leading to it this time. 100 degrees, steady winds of 15 mph with gusts to 35 mph......whew!

I wanted to capture the shafts of light that come streaming through the Ponderosa in the early morning. My product from previous post of "painting in the backyard".

Painting in the backyard

Only about six weeks of painting left before I move from New Mexico and this awesome backyard which includes a mountain! The rising sun dissipated the shadows in the scene I'm painting...... better luck tomorrow!

Painting on Davenport Mountain...9000 ft above sea level

In the middle of a National Forest, 1/2 mile climb up, totally desolate, and a vehicle with two people in it stop to give me a dirty look for being so close to the road....what!
Anyway, here is the painting I was working on, needs some final touches to be done in the studio...

"Roadside Hills", by Jack Providenti

"Roadside Hills"
by Jack Providenti
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas

The result of yesterday's outing, "Roadside Hills" is on Hwy 60, Datil, NM. Starting a painting 2 hrs before sunset provides interesting shadows & highlights for landscapes. The only obstacles are wind & swarms of flies due to the drought here.

Roadside Painting

Doing some roadside painting. This is Hwy 60, Datil, NM. I've not been painting for a while due to some other projects, so now I'm catching up.

"Baldwin Barn", Datil, NM by Jack Providenti

Baldwin Barn
8 x 10 inches
oil on canvas

This old barn is next to an historic landmark known as Baldwin Cabin. The cabin is now the public library in Datil, NM. I took the liberty of naming the barn "Baldwin Barn". Painted just before sunset....great colors.

Painting a Barn

What Barn?

Well, you can't see it yet. This is on a hill in Datil,NM on a very hot dry day just before sunset. You can't see the flies either, but they were everywhere!
