I did not exaggerate the quality and brilliance of the blue sky & water in this painting. This was a clear bright day in St Petersburg, FL.. I was also inspired by the green palm trees and pink Vinoy Hotel in the background. I did a smaller, 5"x7" study of this scene, then went back there for a larger version.Web Site
I painted a small 5 x 7 inch study of this a few months ago, and today I finished this larger version. Here on Florida's Gulf Coast it's common for people to gather and watch a sunset.....a ceremony that possibly started with Sandpipers?
I got to the beach before dawn and walked around while waiting for daylight. I took lots of pictures of that twilight time before the sun actually shows up...this painting is from one of those pictures.
I paint to celebrate nature and to honor people who are celebrating life. Art, wether it is practiced or purchased, will heal & inspire, it will reveal the extraordinary in what previously seemed ordinary. It also helps us re-experience precious moments. I'm using the skills I've learned in order to inspire an emotional response. I emphasize the play of natural light In my paintings and use color generously combined with brush strokes that capture fleeting and treasured moments. I love to paint outdoors as well as in my studio. Being actively immersed in nature contributes to a soulful expression of her many moods. My seascapes and portraits have been hailed by patrons as stunning, vivid and emotionally stirring.
