Paintings for a fundraiser

The second painting in a series of three. The scene is poolside at Miromar Lakes in Naples where these will be auctioned in a fundraiser to help fight child slavery....an unspaekable crime against humanity

Paintings for a fundraiser

I am offering three paintings to be auctioned off in Naples Florida. It's a fundraiser to battle the growing market of child slavery....that's right...mostly young girls being drugged and sold for profit. Here's one of the paintings of a scene in a famous Country Club in Naples, Florida..

"Tropical Flowers"

I spotted this arrangement at the entrance to Suntan Art Center. Passed by it a dozen times, and each time I pictured what it would look like in a painting....so today I painted it!

"Morning Shadows, Sunset Beach" by Jack Providenti

"Morning Shadows", Sunset Beach"
Plein air, 4" x 6", oil on canavs
by Jack Providenti

This is a small gallery wrapped plein-air sketch in oils. I've decided to paint at least 50 of these by Thanksgiving and sell them for Christmas presents. There will be beaches, seascapes, tropical floral scenes, lakes, parks, and cityscapes.

"Kayaks For Rent", by Jack Providenti

"Kayaks For Rent"
12 x 16 inches, oil on canvs
By Jack Providenti

Driving through Fort De Soto Park when the colors and arrangement of the kayaks for rent sparked my interest. I painted most of it late morning when it was about 97 degrees. Spent about 2 hours before I went beyond my tolerance for the heat, so I finished it in my studio at home.

"Charisma" by Jack Providenti

"Charisma"
9 x 12 inches, oil on canvas
By Jack Providenti

"Charisma" 9 x 12 inches, oil on canvas...Docked at Demens Landing, St Pete. I saw this beauty tucked in the mangroves and was immediately inspired. That the boat is named "Charisma" is coincidental with the aura of the scene that morning.

Tequila Sunrise by Jack Providenti

"Tequila Sunrise"

8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
by Jack Providenti
I couldn't think of a name for this one until I remembered the old movie "Tequila Sunrise" with Mel Gibson. Is that stealing? Well, I guess I'm a pirate.

Live Figure Drawing, Second Session

Live Figure Drawing at Softwater Studios, St Pete

This was a twenty minute pose. I'm primarily a landscape/seascape painter, and after two and a half hours of drawing from live models...several poses of two to four minutes, then five twenty minute poses, I'm beginning to see the virtue of studying live models as an added discipline.

"Partly Cloudy" by Jack Providenti

"Partly Cloudy"
24 x 48 inches, oil on canvas
by Jack Providenti

Just finished! This is a relatively large piece being four ft long and two ft high. There were lots of possibilities for naming it, being a sunrise at the St Pete Marina. However, it was definitely partly cloudy!

"Caddy's...Sunset Beach" by Jack Providenti

"Cady's...Sunset Beach"
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
by Jack Providenti

"Caddy's"...Sunset Beach. This is a plein-air painting that I did over a year ago, and found it when I moved recently. Touched it up a little today. It was painted just before sunset. By chance, a professional photographer was sitting there enjoying the scenery with his camera, so he filmed me painting! One of those shots is now my business card logo.

"Break Of Dawn, St Pete Marina"....beginning stages

Just started this today, "Break Of Dawn, St Pete Marina"....it's a large piece, 24 x 48 inches. I've been painting a lot of small pieces, so this big one will get me to loosen up some. Lots of masts, which will come after I'm satisfied with the sky.

A Quiet Morning At The Beach

"A Quiet Morning At The Beach"

8 x 10 inches, oil on board
by
Jack Providenti

I got to the beach before the crowds & painted this quick sketch. I'm doing a lot of small pieces in order to re-acquaint myself with the environment here.

"Before The Storm"

"Before The Storm"
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas

I was painting this on the beach when the storm clouds began to form.....made me a little nervous, but I got out of there just in time. The pink building is the Don Cesar.

Sold! "Morning Mood"

"Morning Mood"
oil on canvas, 20 x 24 inches

Sold! "Morning Mood" It appears to me that a painting, once completed, has it's own destiny. I've sold a few right off the easel....paint still wet, but this one stayed with me 8 months before finding a home.

"Will It Rain" by Jack Providenti

"Will It Rain"
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
by Jack Providenti
I painted this scene on the beach the other day, trashed it, and did it over from reference photos....happens sometimes!

Painting on the beach...

I put aside all the "important" things I had to do regarding getting set up in my new place and went out painting, which is the reason I do all those other things anyway!

The Blacksmith Shop by Jack Providenti

"The Blacksmith Shop"

8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
By Jack Providenti

A quick plein air sketch of the blacksmith shop in Magdelena, New Mexico. This is my last painting in New Mexico before leaving for St Petersburg Florida where I will be living permanently. I was in my studio putting in the finishing touches when I thought I heard the sound of the kids playing up here at Mojave Academy.....not so unusual except that the school has been closed for over three months! So I figured it was the music that I forgot to turn off  over in the house.....or was it? Maybe I've been alone in the mountains too long!

"Canyon Road" by Jack Providenti

"Canyon Road"
by Jack Providenti
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas
Desert heat and strong winds provided an atmosphere of dust that covered the canvas. Mixing  and applying paint was difficult, but somehow it all came together. However, I wouldn't recommend painting with desert dust!

Painting in the Canyon

The walls of Box Canyon are directly behind me. Since I've painted this canyon before, I thought I'd paint the road leading to it this time. 100 degrees, steady winds of 15 mph with gusts to 35 mph......whew!

"The Foot of the Mountain" by Jack Providenti

"The Foot of the Mountain"
9 x 12 inches

I wanted to capture the shafts of light that come streaming through the Ponderosa in the early morning. My product from previous post of "painting in the backyard".

Painting in the backyard

Only about six weeks of painting left before I move from New Mexico and this awesome backyard which includes a mountain! The rising sun dissipated the shadows in the scene I'm painting...... better luck tomorrow!

Painting on Davenport Mountain...9000 ft above sea level

In the middle of a National Forest, 1/2 mile climb up, totally desolate, and a vehicle with two people in it stop to give me a dirty look for being so close to the road....what!
Anyway, here is the painting I was working on, needs some final touches to be done in the studio...

"Roadside Hills", by Jack Providenti

"Roadside Hills"
by Jack Providenti
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas

The result of yesterday's outing, "Roadside Hills" is on Hwy 60, Datil, NM. Starting a painting 2 hrs before sunset provides interesting shadows & highlights for landscapes. The only obstacles are wind & swarms of flies due to the drought here.

Roadside Painting

Doing some roadside painting. This is Hwy 60, Datil, NM. I've not been painting for a while due to some other projects, so now I'm catching up.

"Baldwin Barn", Datil, NM by Jack Providenti

Baldwin Barn
8 x 10 inches
oil on canvas

This old barn is next to an historic landmark known as Baldwin Cabin. The cabin is now the public library in Datil, NM. I took the liberty of naming the barn "Baldwin Barn". Painted just before sunset....great colors.

Painting a Barn

What Barn?

Well, you can't see it yet. This is on a hill in Datil,NM on a very hot dry day just before sunset. You can't see the flies either, but they were everywhere!

"High Noon"
by Jack Providenti
8 x 10 inches, oil on canvas

In searching for a subject to paint, I found myself in a dry, dusty, "no mans' land". I thought of artists who can create extraordinary works out of what looks so mundane, and this is what I came up with...."High Noon" 8 x 10 inches, oil on panel.

Prairie Sunset

"Prairie Sunset"
by Jack Providenti
18 x 24 inches

This was my response to a most outstanding sunset on the prairie....an outburst of colors!

"Just Looking"
by
Jack Providenti

Mooring study

Mooring study

Here is a small study I did for "The Mooring" which was 16 x 20 inches. This one is 8 x 10 on canvas mounted to hardboard. It was one of those enchanted gulf coast evenings!

"Jacaranda" by Jack Providenti

"Jacaranda"
by
Jack Providenti
12 x 16 inches, oil on canvas

The Jacaranda is the purplish pink tree, and while it is only part of this scene, it is what inspired this painting. Here it appears more pink than purple, and that is due to the time of day as well as the colors of the surrounding trees. This is another painting from Coffee Pot Bayou, St Petersburg, FL.

"Trawler at the Dock" by Jack Providenti

"Trawler at the Dock"
by
Jack Providenti
11 x 14 inches, oil on canvas

Here is a taste of the colorful commercial fishing community in Madiera Beach Florida. I've met several of the captains & crew when I used to be a part time taxi driver along the beaches in Pinellas County. They are an adventurous lot. I think they may be descendants of the old world pirates!
